Course Overview
Biology or life science is the study of life and living organisms. This branch of science looks at how living things are built, grow, get energy, reproduce, change, and spread across earth. There are five central themes of biology. Life from tiny cells to whole ecosystems are studied. It splits into fields like molecular biology, physiology, ecology, evolutionary biology, developmental biology, and systematics. Each of these fields relies on watching closely, testing ideas, and using math tools to explore life processes. The discovery of the structure of DNA and advances in monecular genetics have changed biology greatly. It is applicated in medicine, agriculture, biotechnology, and environmental science.

Content
Grade 8
Students begin by learning the cell theory that all living things are made of cells and cells are the building blocks of life. They use microscopes to compare and find structures of plant and animal cells. They learn photosynthesis, cellular respiration, the difference between unicellular and multicellular organisms, and how cells divide.

Grade 9
Students focus on genetics and cell division. They learn the structure and function of DNA, the double helix, and how genes determine traits. They also learn mitosis and meiosis, understanding how organisms grow and reproduce.

Grade 10
Students focus on ecology and human body systems. In ecology, students learn how matter is recycled in nature and how human activities like deforestation and burning fossil fuels affect ecosystems. In human biology, they learn the digestive system, respiratory system, and circulatory system and see how enzymes and lungs work in labs and models.

Grade 11
Students go much deeper into life sciences. The five biological kingdoms, bacteria, protists, fungi, plants, and animals, are a major focus. They study their structures, life cycles, and ecological rules. They learn about evolution and natural selection too.

Grade 12
Students mainly learn human anotomy and physiology, including detailed studies of the respiratory, circulatory, excretory, nervous, and endocrine system. Topics on the molecular side is covered.

How Students Feel

Yuri
Yuri is taught by Mr Liang. He is currently learning about energy transformation in cells. He thinks that if students study every day, the class won't be difficult at all. Sometimes exams are difficult because they are more advanced than the materials Mr Liang gave them. His average grade is 93%. He loves doing labs in class. He hasn't done any dissections yet. He prefers individual projects to group projects, since his groupmates are not the best.

Issac
Issac is also taught by Mr Liang. He is learning about DNA structures right now. The tests in this class are difficult, but he does well because he studies hard. He thinks that the lab reports are the most difficult part of this class, since they need to put a lot of detail into them. His average grade is 85%. He enjoys the class, learning about how our bodies work. He has cut open a cow's eyeball. This was his favourite lab so far. He prefers group projects to individual projects, because he and his group all have their own individual strengths and together they can do better.
Conclusion
Biology is the scientific study of life and living organisms. This branch of science looks at how living things are built, grow, obtain energy, reproduce, change, and spread on earth. Biology has five central themes. It is a useful subject. Discoveries in biology are used in medicine, agriculture, biotechnology and environmental sciences. In biology class, students learn cells, genetics, reproduction, ecology, body systems, and more. They will develop critical thinking skills, apply scientific reasoning, and explain their ideas in class tasks, activities and labs.
